Crystal Palace are reportedly expanding their search for a new manager, with former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid star Filipe Luis emerging as a shock candidate to take the reins at Selhurst Park.

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook says outgoing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola remains the club’s “top target”, while the Eagles are paying close attention to the Brazilian tactical prodigy as they prepare for life after Oliver Glasner.

The south London club is at a crossroads following Glasner’s decision to leave at the end of this season, which saw Palace reach the European finals for the first time in their history.

Iraola’s ambitious move is underway, but Luiz’s possible appointment represents a bold shift for one of the most exciting young managers in world football.

Crystal Palace focus on surprise move for Filipe Luis

The interest in Filipe Luis comes at a time when the 40-year-old’s stock is at an all-time high.

Despite his sudden dismissal from Flamengo in March 2026, reportedly due to conflicts within the board rather than his performance, Rues has emerged as a highly sought-after manager.

Alex Crook revealed that although Palace have made it clear that Iraola is their preferred choice, they have not signed a formal offer, leaving the door open to alternative candidates.

Speaking to X, Crook revealed: “The ambitious #CPFC have made it clear Andoni Iraola is their top target. According to a tweet yesterday, there is no formal offer and nothing has progressed yet. It may depend on whether Palace follow up on their interest. Another name the Eagles are considering is Felipe Luis.”

Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring Iraola’s situation, with Palace bosses ensuring an elite contingency is in place.

Filipe Luis’ amazing coaching record

For Premier League fans, Filipe Luis is best remembered as the world-class left-back who won the title with Chelsea in 2015.

But since retiring at the end of 2023, his transition into management has been remarkable.

He took over as Flamengo manager in September 2024 and presided over an unprecedented era of dominance in South American football.

In just 18 months, he won seven titles with an impressive 70% win rate in 101 matches.

His playing style has been influenced by Diego Simeone’s time as manager, with an emphasis on positional play.

Felipe became the first person in Brazilian history to win the Libertadores and the national league as both player and coach.
