Manager Eddie Howe warned of a very unpredictable and difficult summer transfer window for Newcastle United after their final home game of the season.

After a comprehensive 3-1 victory over a struggling West Ham side at St James’ Park, the Magpies manager made it clear that big changes are on the horizon.

Eddie Howe hints at changing Newcastle’s summer transfer window

Reflecting on what felt like the end of an era on Tyneside, with post-match farewells to marquee players such as Kieran Trippier and Emile Craft, Howe admitted the team could look very different by next season.

“It’s very difficult to predict the transfer window. There’s a good chance that players will leave,” said Howe.

“If they do, they will, and if they don’t, we’ll move forward with the group we have now. But we’re doing different things to improve. If people leave, we need to bring in better players. We can’t let the team and the squad get weaker. That’s what’s important to me.”

Mr Howe acknowledged that while he has supported continuity so far, the pace of change will accelerate.

“That’s the nature of football, it’s always changing and evolving. We might see a change in speed this summer, which means we’ll be stronger, but maybe it’ll be different.”

Talking about the impact of Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool on Newcastle

The Newcastle manager made a clear reference to the departure of Swedish star Alexander Isak, whose blockbuster £125m move to Liverpool previously forced United to readjust their sporting blueprint.

Howe pointed out that losing a foundational player like Isaac fundamentally changes a club’s trajectory. “When Alexander left, one type of team at Newcastle had almost come to an end, but a new team was forming. Kieran Trippier was an iconic full-back and he started it again.”

Eddie Howe to remain as Newcastle manager next season

Despite an underwhelming season this season, hit by injuries and with Newcastle languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League, Howe remains fully secure in his place.

Club leaders have given their full support to the manager leading a major overhaul of the team, rather than seeking a new direction from the dugout.

With the full backing of the board, Howe is already taking shape on a long-term rebuild and is determined to steer the new Newcastle team back into the European stage next term.
