  • Keene’s criticism seems a bit harsh towards Fernandes.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has once again made headlines for his harsh assessment of captain Bruno Fernandes, claiming the Portuguese midfielder’s individual numbers will mean little if the team continues to fail as a whole.

Keane’s latest comments came after Fernandes equaled an impressive assist record, but instead of celebrating the feat, the former United captain focused on what he believes is the bigger issue – Man United’s inability to compete for major honours.

In his typically no-nonsense manner, Keane dismissed the excitement surrounding Fernandes’ creativity and claimed fans and pundits were losing sight of the bigger picture at Old Trafford.

Keane didn’t hold back on the latest episode of Stick To Football. he said:

“With that kind of mindset among players, he’s not going to win trophies with United.” Keane said while discussing Fernandes’ performance.

He went further and criticized the reaction to Fernandes equaling the assist record despite United conceding goals and not being in control of the game.

“They conceded two goals and we’re all giddy because he equaled the assist record. It’s mind-boggling. It’s like a circus.”

The comments reflect growing frustration among former Man United players who feel the club has strayed too far from the standards it once defined.

For Keane, individual statistics mean little if the team doesn’t win trophies or show defensive discipline.

Fernandes remains one of Man United’s most productive players. The midfielder consistently carried much of the creative burden, providing goals, assists, and leadership during a difficult period for the club.

Keene’s criticism seems a bit harsh towards Fernandes.

Even under different managers and with inconsistent tactics, Fernandes was often the one player who produced moments of quality.

Keane is right that football has become overly obsessed with statistics.

It may seem strange to praise the assist record while ignoring the team’s poor performance, especially for a club as ambitious as Man United.

However, I feel it’s a little harsh to blame Fernandes. In fact, he is often one of the few players that can propel United forward even when others are gone.

His passion and willingness to take on responsibility are unquestionable. The real question is whether the team around him is good enough to match his accomplishments.
