Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Sporting CP defender Maxi Araujo.

SportWitness reports that Arsenal are also a target for the 26-year-old, with two Premier League clubs already making inquiries about the player. It will be interesting to see if they respond to that interest and make a formal offer to sign the player.

His contract has a release clause of £70m and it would be quite surprising if Manchester United or Arsenal decided to pay such a sum for a left-back. There is no doubt that he is a quality player and he has shown that ability both at club and international level. However, they will likely look to sign him at a more reasonable price.

Manchester United need a quality long-term replacement for Luke Shaw and Araujo would be a fantastic signing. He is at the peak of his career and it is the perfect time to take on a new challenge and join a big club.

Arsenal, on the other hand, could use a specialist left-back who can contribute at both ends of the pitch. The 26-year-old will continue to help out defensively and create chances for his teammates. He could add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack. Araujo has contributed to 12 goals this season.

The Portuguese club would need to make reasonable demands to make the transfer happen. It remains to be seen where Araujo will go. The 26-year-old defender could be an asset to both clubs if they can sign him for a reasonable fee.
