Newcastle United and Aston Villa are in contention to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna this summer, while the Magpies are looking for a replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle approach to sign La Liga attacker

Manager Eddie Howe may have been quick to reiterate that this summer will not be like last time and that the story of Alexander Isak will not be repeated, but Bayern Munich may still spoil their plans. They have been preparing to move Gordon for quite some time and appear ready to swoop in at the end of the season.

Newcastle have already set their sights on an “exciting replacement for Gordon”.

Newcastle tried to block Isaac last summer but lost him in the final stages. What they most need is for Gordon’s story to span a similar time frame. Once they’ve learned something, it’s time to use it to focus on finding a suitable replacement.

That being said, it looks like La Liga’s name is on their radar. According to the Mirror, Newcastle have made contact with Osasuna to sign Muñoz, overtaking Aston Villa in the race for the winger in the process.

Muñoz, who is only 22, joined Osasuna last summer after graduating from Real Madrid’s youth organization. However, within a year, he came to the attention of Newcastle after an impressive campaign.

The young winger also spent time in Barcelona’s La Masia academy. In terms of pure talent, he is a player full of potential. However, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle’s first contact will be enough to lure him to St James’ Park.

Impressive Munoz could replace Gordon.

Replacing Gordon will not be an easy task, but a former Real Madrid or Barcelona talent would not be a bad choice. Muñoz has shown exactly why he has the potential to perform at the top level again this season, scoring seven goals in all competitions and adding five more.

It’s easy to see why Newcastle are keeping an eye on Munoz. In terms of numbers, he has matched Gordon in almost every department this season, with the same production and even greater take-on success.

If the Magpies can land a big-money winger before bringing on Muñoz, they could look back on some great business before the summer is over.

The 22-year-old has yet to reach the peak of his powers, but the fact that he is starting to score goals in La Liga should be seen as an incredibly positive sign.
