Barcelona have been heavily linked with the signing of Anthony Gordon in recent weeks and have now reached an agreement in principle to sign him.
According to a report from Ben Jacobs, the 25-year-old will undergo a medical check with the Spanish champions this week. Barcelona will pay the England international attacker around £70 million plus bonuses.
They needed to add depth to their offensive line and Gordon would be a great addition. This season he proved his quality in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. He has the quality to play for a bigger club and the opportunity to play for Barcelona would be exciting for him.
He will fight for big trophies with them. Newcastle have had a disappointing season and are now in a period of change. It is unlikely that the 25-year-old will be able to fight for big trophies with them.
Meanwhile, Gordon’s departure will be a huge blow to Newcastle. He has been the team’s best attacker this season and replacing him will not be easy. Newcastle now need to invest in multiple attackers, with summer signings Nick Waltemaide and Yoan Wissa not doing well.
The 25-year-old attacker has also been closely linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Liverpool were reported to have a historic interest in the player, but no move was made this summer.
The Newcastle star has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in all competitions this season. He can function anywhere in the front three and could be the ideal utility man for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have also been linked with a permanent move for Marcus Rashford, and it remains to be seen whether they will have room for him after signing Gordon.
