Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a quality goalkeeper and have identified Anatoly Trubin as a target.
According to a report in the Portuguese newspaper (h/t SportWitness), Tottenham want to sign the 24-year-old goalkeeper, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will go ahead.
They hope to sign him to replace Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian goalkeeper has had a difficult time with the north London club and has been criticized at times for his error-prone performances. There have been rumors of a return to Italy, with Inter Milan keen to sign him.
Tottenham will need to let him go before signing the 24-year-old Benfica goalkeeper.
It has been a disappointing season for Tottenham, who have barely survived the decline. They aim to bounce back strongly next year and would ideally have a reliable goalkeeper at their disposal. Trubin showed his quality in Portugal and has the ability to succeed in England. The opportunity to join the north London club will be an exciting one for him. At 24 years old, it’s the perfect time to take on a new challenge.
However, he is a key player for Benfica and is under contract until 2028. It won’t be easy for Tottenham to get a deal done. His contract includes a release clause of 100 million euros. Spurs won’t be able to pay a premium for him and Benfica will have to be reasonable with Spurs’ demands. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
Tottenham have been linked with a number of goalkeeper signings in recent weeks, including Brighton star Bert Verbruggen, who has played alongside Roberto De Zerbi in the past.
