Newcastle United have been given an early push to welcome summer signings, with the defensive target now available for £26m.

Newcastle targets relocation to St James’ Park

The Magpies should have cash to spare after selling Anthony Gordon for £69m. That’s part of the reason the two broke up without the usual outrage that accompanies a big move.

The big question is how Newcastle will use that money. They will be more aware than others that a large transfer fee could be wasted. Just 12 months ago, they revamped their attacking line with the addition of Ioan Wissa, Nick Waltemaid and Anthony Elanga. Since then, none of them have achieved results.

Things should be different this time. Targets like Abde Ezarzouri have already emerged as top targets and it is no surprise that he is the top target to replace Gordon, having contributed 28 goals for Real Betis this season.

Elsewhere, the people of Tyneside are also looking to cover for Tino Livramento. According to France’s Jeunes Footeux, Strasbourg are ready to sell Guerra Due to Newcastle, who have earmarked the right-back as one of their top targets this summer.

Newcastle are at risk of losing Tonali in the summer transfer window.

Doe costs just €30m (about £26m), certainly a good price for the Magpies on the back of Gordon’s sale. And given Livramento’s injury history, the signing of another right-back definitely makes sense.

Newcastle would be wise to sign Doue this summer

Gordon stole the headlines this summer, but it wasn’t that long ago that Libramento caught the attention of Manchester City. If those rumors come back, Newcastle will be without a right-back and will need to be prepared to replace him immediately. That’s where Duet might come into play.

In terms of similarities, Doue would be more than capable of stepping up into that role at Newcastle. He is definitely a better creator and a better possession recoverer – two traits that Eddie Howe desperately needs. Therefore, even if Livramento leaves in the near future, he could still be an upgrade.

With Strasbourg willing to sell and the price not out of their range, the Magpies will have to make a routine run for the defender and avoid last season’s last-minute transfer spree, which cost them dearly throughout the campaign.
