This week marks one of the biggest tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Memorial Tournament and the best tournament the Tour has to offer. Representing the penultimate signature event and final player invitational tournament, the Memorial will feature 72 players selected to be the top 50 players and those within 10 strokes of the lead at the halfway point.

Only 17 players in PGA Tour history have completed a three-peat, but world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is looking to make that number 18 this week. The two-time defending champion has won in 2024 and 2025, with two third-place finishes two years prior, and his name has become synonymous with the Jack Nicklaus event.

Scheffler will become the first player this century to seek to win the same tournament three years in a row, joining the likes of Steve Stricker, Stuart Appleby and Tiger Woods, who have accomplished this multiple times. Other legends like Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Johnny Miller accomplished this as well.

Unlike last season, when Scheffler defeated Ben Griffin, this season’s tournament will also feature the No. 2 ranked player in the world. Rory McIlroy returns to competition with what can only be described as a light playing schedule so far. The Masters champion has completed just six tournaments on the PGA Tour this season, as the calendar enters the sixth month of the year.

McIlroy, who missed last year’s tournament due to scheduling conflicts, hopes to shake Nicklaus’ hand by this weekend.

Previous players who have done the same include two-time tournament winner Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, Matt Kuchar and Justin Rose. Viktor Hovland has had his name removed from the field for unknown reasons, as the 2023 champion becomes the only top player to rest for a week.

2026 Memorial Tournament Odds

Odds from DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Scotty Scheffler (3-1)
  • Rory McIlroy (9-1): After a lackluster opening salvo at the PGA Championship, McIlroy battled his way back into contention and ultimately finished T7 at Aronimink. Coincidentally, T7 was their best finish in this tournament over the past five years and they weren’t under any serious threat of breaking this tournament, especially with the big numbers in the final round. McIlroy has been able to control the golf ball in big stadiums this year, but he will need to find control, especially off the tee, to win this golf tournament.
  • Cameron Young (13-1): He played the final 36 holes at Aronimink at 2 over and finished the championship outside the top 20. Those numbers are familiar to Young at Muirfield Village, where he finished outside the top 20 in four outings. The Players Championship winner’s best effort was a T25 that came last season. Young is a much different player now than he was back then because he has all the weapons at his disposal. His iron play remains sharp, but is a little slower than it was in the spring.
  • Xander Schauffele (18-1)
  • Ludwig Oberg (20-1): Players like Matsuyama and Bryson DeChambeau have announced their arrival after winning this title, and Oberg, who has been here for a while, will have a similar vibe. Oberg, who had already shaken hands with Tiger Woods after winning last season’s Genesis Invitational, could earn his second of three invitationals this week. He ranks third behind Scheffler and Young in total strokes gained over the past three months, and everything points to him being in contention. Something would have to change to suggest he would win, but it was probably the putter switch that produced his second-best putting performance since the Masters.
  • Matt Fitzpatrick (21-1): Fitzpatrick has had ups and downs in his previous seven trips to Muirfield Village. Fitzpatrick, a three-time winner this season, has three top-10 finishes but no other top-30 finishes, including two missed cuts. His game remains balanced, but a good driver week would be a huge help to the Englishman. Fitzpatrick has led the field in strokes gained around the greens over the past three months.
  • Kim Si Woo (23-1)
  • Russell Henry (26-1)
  • Patrick Cantlay (26-1): He is a player who is progressing in the right direction, having won twice at this golf course, but Cantlay has yet to win since the 2022 BMW Championship. As he enters his fourth season without a title, the former FedEx Cup champion has reached what can only be described as a high comfort level. He had four top-12 finishes in his past five starts and was a standout at the PGA Championship, but a poor weekend saw him fall off the leaderboard.
  • Tommy Fleetwood (27-1)
