  • Tom Heaton signs 12-month contract with United
  • Heaton will continue to be Senne Ramens’ mentor

Jason Wilcox told fans: ‘Delighted’ After Manchester United confirmed Tom Heaton has put pen to paper on a new contract.

The veterans’ terms would have expired at the end of this month had they not agreed to a one-year extension.

Tom Heaton signs 12-month contract with United

The Director of Football told the club media: “We are happy that Tom will continue for another year. Everyone knows the importance of his leadership and professionalism within the group.

“Tom played a key role in supporting Senne (Lamence) throughout his first season in the Premier League. His constant dedication and mentality has set a great standard for our goalkeeping group.”

Heaton has not played for the first team since 2021, but everyone at Old Trafford was keen to keep him given the impact he would have on the rest of the team, particularly in the goalkeeping department.

Heaton will continue to be Senne Ramens’ mentor

As Wilcox mentioned, the 40-year-old’s experience and expertise make him an invaluable person to have around the dressing room.

Heaton, a three-cap England international, was on the bench five times last season. Four times in the Premier League and once in the League Cup.

Altai Bayndir started 2025/2026 as the number one between the sticks of Ruben Amorim, but his poor performance left the board desperate to secure a new shot-stopper before the summer deadline.

Eventually they landed on Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Ramens, going so far as to agree personal terms with the former before favoring a more youthful option in the 23-year-old Belgian.

Ramens has since repaid INEOS’ faith in him by overseeing an impressive maiden campaign amidst Amorim’s tumultuous departure.

Indeed, the Club Brugge graduate was named transfer player of the season by the Premier League on Monday, showing just how much he has transformed in the M16.

Meanwhile, unpopular duo Bindil and Andre Onana are expected to be sold in the coming months, with a new keeper brought in to play second fiddle to Lamence.
