Manchester United are currently preparing to sign a ‘sensational’ star who could replace Ederson.
Man United keen to sign midfielder to follow Ederson
Manager Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ederson is set to complete his move from Atalanta to Old Trafford, but there may be a number of other deals in the works and two more midfielders could arrive before the transfer deadline.
Romano said: “And don’t forget, this is only the first game for Man Utd. They’ll have a lot of other things going on in the market. Casemiro is leaving, Manuel Ugarte is leaving too, so there’s going to be at least one more midfielder, so Man Utd will be very busy over the next few weeks.”
The deal is expected to be finalized in early July and the 26-year-old has also played regular defensive roles throughout his career and could be a near-equal successor to compatriot Casemiro.
Ugarte’s future is also up in the air, with United willing to accept a bid of £35m for the Uruguayan, who has been identified as a target by Premier League rivals Newcastle United, Romano revealed.
Signing at least one more midfielder could therefore be paramount, with the Red Devils now setting their sights on a Premier League star.
Manchester United preparing to sign Premier League star
Gianluigi Longari also claimed in an article for X that Man United are looking to add another addition to their midfield following Ederson and are currently “preparing to make an offer” for West Ham United star Matheus Fernandes.
A bid could be submitted “within the next few days”, with reports suggesting West Ham, who were relegated from the Premier League, could cash in for as little as £43m to £52m.
Liverpool are also preparing to sign the Portuguese maestro, while United are eyeing an advance from their rivals.
Fernandes has been hailed as “sensational” by Mark Carlow on The West Ham Way podcast, with Roy Keane also a big fan, with the legendary midfielder ranking him above the likes of Alex Scott, Carlos Bareva, Casemiro and Enzo Fernandes.
Baleva and Scott have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with talks recently begun over a deal for the AFC Bournemouth star.
Manchester United midfield targets | current club | potential transfer fee |
carlos barreba | brighton | £50 million |
alex scott | bournemouth | £60m |
Matthew Fernandez | west ham | £43m – £52m |
Fernandes made 34 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists, and the 21-year-old still has plenty of time to further develop his game.
