Liverpool are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move from the north London club in recent months. He is currently one of the best defenders in the Premier League and could be an unusual signing for Liverpool.
With Ibrahima Konate leaving the club on a free transfer, Liverpool will need a replacement for him. Signing the Tottenham defender could be a masterstroke. He is at the peak of his career and firmly entrenched in the Premier League. He could easily fill the void left by the French international and serve as a substitute.
However, Football Insider reports that Roberto De Zerbi will prevent the Dutch international from leaving the club. He rates the player highly and would like to build a defensive unit around the Dutch international.
Mick Brown reveals: “We all know what he brings to the team. He has blistering speed. That means he can recover and get that last challenge and that’s very important.”
“That’s why there’s a lot of interest in him. There’s also talk about Liverpool and other teams and he might be tempted to move.
“From Tottenham’s point of view, the arrival of De Zerbi will give them hope that they can convince him to stay.
“The new manager wants to build around him and wants him to be part of his team and the projects he has going on.
“For example, if he can limit the pace at the right moments and not spoil the pitch, he will be able to work together and solve some of the problems in the game.
“He will want to get that chance, so that means blocking any possible departure for now and trying to convince him that staying can still be an option.
“It might be difficult and we’ll see how it goes, but from a Spurs point of view they would be very reluctant to lose him.”
Tottenham have barely survived in the Premier League this season, but will be looking to bounce back strongly. They won’t want to fight for survival again next season. They can’t afford to sell one of their best players.
The defender’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2029 and they are under no pressure to allow him to leave. Any club interested in signing the player would have to offer an incredible amount of money.
