Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are currently in a huge race to sign an impressive star player, who could be on the move this summer whether the clubs like it or not.
Aston Villa and Tottenham compete for midfield star
There are already several transfer stories waiting to explode this summer, one of which could have quite the ramifications. Of course, it revolves around Morgan Rogers’ future. The Aston Villa man could be heading for the exit to allay concerns over the club’s PSR and complete a move to Arsenal’s prestigious side.
His departure would be a huge blow for the Villans, but it would also cause problems for Nottingham Forest, with rumors swirling around Morgan Gibbs-White’s future.
According to SportsBoom, Aston Villa and Tottenham are competing to sign Gibbs-White this summer, with Forest facing an “inevitable” sale as he only has two years left on his current contract.
The Villains are the team most actively making moves, but the Spurs are one of several teams lurking in a major battle for his signature.
Indeed, if Villa, Spurs or any other club swoop in for the midfielder in the coming months, Tricky Trees may have no choice but to cash in this summer.
This came just a year after Evangelos Marinakis acted quickly to sign Gibbs-White to a new contract and end Tottenham’s pursuit. One summer later, the Lilywhites have now been joined by up to five other clubs, giving them huge competition to reach the goal.
Gibbs-White would be Rodgers’ perfect successor at Aston Villa
If Nottingham Forest are indeed facing an inevitable sale, their midlands rivals should do everything they can to maximize their return. In the same summer that they could have lost Rodgers, Aston Villa now have the perfect replacement on their doorstep.
Manager Unai Emery is reportedly a fan of Gibbs-White, with Aston Villa prioritizing signing the England international midfielder despite competition from Tottenham, who are looking to revive last year’s club.
PL 25/26 | rogers | gibbs white |

There’s even an argument that Gibbs-White would be an upgrade over Rodgers. The Forest star is certainly good at scoring goals and had no problems creating chances last season. He is someone Villa should do everything in their power to sign.
