Kieran Trippier is considering leaving his contract with Wolves following the shock sacking of manager Rob Edwards on Thursday.

The veteran full-back is reportedly furious and feels betrayed by the hierarchy at Molineux, having only agreed to join the club days earlier because of the 43-year-old manager’s presence.

According to the Daily Mail, Edwards was a decisive factor in convincing the 35-year-old defender to move to Molineux.

Trippier cut short his holiday in Turkey earlier this week to undergo a medical and sign a pre-contract agreement, with his formal two-year deal due to start on July 1, when his contract with Newcastle United officially expires.

Edwards saw the former England international as a pillar of his dressing room following Wolves’ relegation from the top flight.

The club also acquired Mexico’s Raul Jimenez this week, who scored in Thursday night’s World Cup victory over South Africa.

Trippier’s contract with Timberwolves is in doubt amid backlash

Trippier’s choice of Wolves was reportedly influenced by multiple Premier League offers and lucrative interest from Saudi Arabia, but Trippier turned them all down in favor of Edwards’ long-term project.

The experienced right-back previously joined Atletico Madrid before making a transformative move to Newcastle in 2022, and his arrival is widely credited with being the catalyst for the club’s modern resurgence under manager Eddie Howe.

Edwards expected Trippier to have a similar cultural and leadership impact with the Wolves, especially on a team preparing for a challenging championship campaign.

According to reports, Trippier is now actively considering a release from his contract following the manager’s sudden sacking, while several senior players have contacted Edwards directly to express their regrets.

Despite internal pushback, the Wolves hierarchy is moving quickly to fill the vacancy.

The club is already close to finalizing the appointment of Portuguese manager Cesar Peixoto to replace Edwards.
