  • Who will replace Danny Rolle on the Rangers?

        • Rolle’s next romance: £4m star pushing to sign with Rangers

Just when it looked like Rangers’ project was starting to take off for next season, Danny Rolle may be bidding farewell.

The German has attracted interest from Red Bull Salzburg and has already made direct contact with the 49ers regarding a quick move.

This comes in the midst of Gers’ transfer business, which has already seen the arrival of Lawrence Shankland and several other names on their radar.

But now there may be little choice but to focus on changing management.

Who will replace Danny Rolle on the Rangers?

Since news broke that Salzburg are pushing to hire Rohr, Ibrox bosses will have been scrutinizing the last managerial shortlist memo drawn up less than a year ago.

The biggest challenge for Scotland’s top clubs at the moment appears to be finding long-term options in the technical area.

Celtic went from Brendan Rodgers to Martin O’Neill, Wilfried Nancy and back to O’Neill. Meanwhile, the Rangers fired Russell Martin before appointing Rolle, and could be in the market for a replacement.

But this time there is no shortage of potential options. There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard will once again be a player to watch. Negotiations between the former manager and the 49ers broke down last time, but things are much calmer at Ibrox these days.

If there’s anyone who has the know-how to get Rangers back to winning the Scottish Premiership, it’s the man who last did just that in the 21/22 season.

Another option is Kevin Muscat. The former Rangers player has been on the Gers’ radar for quite some time and could finally return to Scotland for a third time.

However, neither name should be the club’s first choice. With Shankland already on the line, Rangers need to make the final straw by hiring Hearts manager Derek McInnes.

Why Rangers should do everything in their power to hire McInnes

There are many ways for Rangers to climb back above Hearts to challenge Celtic next season, but the most ruthless way would be to rob them of their captain and manager.

The first phase of that plan has already been completed. Shankland made his dream move possible at a bargain price.

Now, if Rohr heads to Salzburg, McInnes could be next. The appointment will steal all the headlines in Scotland and put Rangers in their best position to win the Premiership since Gerrard.

The Hearts manager was named Scotland’s Manager of the Year last season and there is little doubt that he has had the best run in the league over the past 12 months. If the Ibrox bosses are looking closer to home, he is an outstanding candidate.

McInnes offers a balance that Rolle has not been able to provide in the Scottish Premiership to date. Last season, Hearts’ side approached history with a 4-4-2 system and they won in their own way, with Celtic clinching a dramatic victory on the final day.

It will not be easy to lure a manager away from Tynecastle, but Rangers would be foolish not to try.

After the last campaign, some may have thought it impossible to sign Shankland. He is set to line up at Ibrox next season and could be joined by his former manager.

Rangers are eyeing the signing of a star player who could become Danny Rolle’s next Ibrox Tourman.
