  • West Ham situation could open the door
  • Manchester United may have to pay extra due to World Cup impact

Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for West Ham United winger Crisencio Somerville as they continue to look for more threat and balance on the left side of their attack.

According to The Athletic, the 24-year-old is high on United’s list of candidates for the left-wing position after an excellent season with West Ham, despite the Hammers suffering relegation from the Premier League.

The Sun reports that United are interested in the Dutch international as part of their summer rebuild.

Somerville would be an interesting addition to United. He is quick, direct and comfortable with defenders and can play with real intensity in transition.

That’s exactly the type of winger that United sometimes lack, especially when their attacks are too predictable.

West Ham situation could open the door

The big issue is the price. West Ham are expected to ask around £50 million, which is still a significant transfer fee.

However, their relegation could change the course of the deal.

West Ham are facing financial pressure and may need to raise funds through player sales.

This would give United hope of negotiating, even if the Hammers start with a solid valuation.

Somerville just joined West Ham from Leeds United in 2024 after previously being named Player of the Season.

Sky Sports reported West Ham’s interest in him before the move, and his development since then only makes him even more appealing.

Manchester United may have to pay extra due to World Cup impact

Somerville is currently playing for the Netherlands at the World Cup, so United may have to tread carefully.

If he performs well on that stage, West Ham’s asking price could rise quickly.

Somerville scored a stunning goal with his left foot in the first World Cup match against Japan.

PSG are also wary of his situation after a strong start to the World Cup.

For Manchester United, this feels like a deal worth considering. The price is high, but the fit is obvious.

If United are looking for more pace, width and unpredictability, Somerville could be one of the smarter attacking options available this summer.
