Tottenham are heavily linked with a summer move for former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, but sources understand he is not a target and are instead focused on other options in attack.

Greenwood has been working with Spurs manager Robert de Zerbi at Marseille and a report in L’Equipe claims the Londoner is ready to move on for the former England international.

Mr de Zerbi’s arrival in north London in March was controversial due to his past statements and association with Mr Greenwood, who was later charged in 2022 with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which were later dismissed.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges in February 2023, citing “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and newly revealed material”, meaning that “there is no realistic prospect of a conviction”.

Greenwood, who denied the charges, has since resumed his career, but left United to join De Zerbi’s Marseille in 2024.

On his arrival at Tottenham, De Zerbi apologized for offending his past comments about Greenwood being a “good man” who paid a “high price” after three supporter groups opposed his appointment.

De Zerbi won three of his seven games in charge, overcoming a shaky start and guiding Spurs into the safety of the Premier League.

A dramatic final-day win against Everton sealed his stay and gave De Zerbi plenty of credit in the bank ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Liverpool and Tottenham look set to vie over the future of the hugely popular defender.

Tottenham have already moved quickly since they were brought to the brink of relegation by signing free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi and securing a £52m transfer for centre-back Jan Paul van Hekke from Brighton, but Greenwood has no intention of following the trio all the way to N17.

However, that does not mean the Lilywhites are not working to improve their attacking line-up, with the signing of a new centre-forward expected this summer.

Spurs eyeing acquisition of MLS star player

La Liga side Real Betis are currently facing pressure from Tottenham in the race to sign FC Cincinnati striker Kevin Denke, according to a report in Spain by Sports Witness.

Betis are working to sign the 25-year-old and see him as a top target, with Cincinnati expected to ask just 15 million euros (approximately 1.3 billion yen) for this summer’s signing.

Denky has had an incredible goal record in recent years, scoring 66 points in 152 games with Cercle Brugge before joining Team USA, and 31 goals in 51 games.

Betis want a “top class striker” which they believe the Togolese international will be, but the La Liga club is currently sweating it out as Spurs are scouting him and are more than capable of paying a £13m transfer fee.

Tottenham may see a cheap striker as the ideal solution while they consider what to do with Richarlison and Dominic Solanke, which would also allow them to strengthen their midfield by splashing out on Newcastle star Sandro Tonali.

Tonali’s representatives shared an update on his future this week.
