Celtic are now set to begin contract negotiations with a key defensive addition who has given Parkhead managers the green light for a summer move.
While Rangers and Hearts are preparing for a new era under new managers, Celtic have decided to retain Martin O’Neill. The veteran manager spent two interim spells last season, his second spell ending in dramatic circumstances with the club winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double.
Time’s up for Iheanacho: Celtic’s £2m bid could be accepted for 15-goal star
Celtic are reportedly interested in signing a star player bigger than Kelechi Iheanacho.
At 74, O’Neill still has that power and his side are probably in the most secure position to win another league title next season, especially if they bring in new players.
To that end, the Boyes have reportedly been eyeing players like Elijah Just in recent weeks. The Motherwell forward has already featured for New Zealand at the World Cup, scoring a stunning goal in the 2-2 draw against Iran.
The winger is not the only familiar face Celtic are chasing this summer, with reports currently suggesting that Celtic could be close to making their first signing of the summer.
Celtic to begin contract negotiations with defender
As the managerial merry-go-round begins in Scotland, it is Boyes who could attract attention on the transfer front. According to the Daily Record, Celtic are set to finalize a move to sign Marcelo Saracchi this summer, making his loan move permanent.
The left-back has been told to pack his bags and leave Boca Juniors and is keen to return to Parkhead with little of the ball left in Celtic’s court. Negotiations are set to begin between the parties over a deal that could cost £2m, according to reports.
That will definitely be music to O’Neill’s ears. The experienced manager was full of praise for Saracchi on the final day of the Scottish Premiership campaign, with scenes of a wholesome dressing room caught on camera, calling the defender a “special person”.
From that day on, Saracchi’s permanent move felt completely logical. It’s not something Celtic can afford to spend a lot of money on. Instead, it gives O’Neal an immediate reunion with a player he clearly values.
