Aston Villa are looking for a replacement for Emiliano Martinez and have identified Zion Suzuki as a target.
According to TEAMtalk, they have made new contacts to sign a goalkeeper for the Japanese national team. Suzuki has had great results with Parma and also proved his quality at the World Cup against Japan.
The 23-year-old has been compared to Gianluigi Buffon due to his reliable performances in Italy. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can make a deal.
Acquiring the player could cost a transfer fee of around 40 million euros, so they certainly have the financial power to complete a deal.
Martinez has been an extraordinary servant to Aston Villa and they need to replace him properly. They have qualified for next season’s Champions League and will need top-level players if they are to do well in the Premier League and Europe.
Suzuki may be attracted to the idea of joining them. It would be a step up in his career and would see him play in the Champions League with Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Leeds United are monitoring his situation closely. Manchester United attempted to sign the player last summer but ultimately signed Senne Lamence instead.
Leeds need to replace the indefatigable Illan Meslier and Suzuki could be their reinforcement.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper will aim to sort out his future soon. A move to the Premier League would be ideal at this stage of his career and playing regular football in England would allow him to reach his full potential.
Aston Villa have the resources to get a deal done and reports suggest an offer of around €30 million could be enough to get them over the line.
