The World Cup has meant a slow start to this transfer window in terms of really big deals in the Premier League, but they are now starting to take hold.
Arsenal are aiming to grow by winning the title, and their top midfield target is already clear. Fabrizio Romano today reported that the Gunners have made a “formal approach” to Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
Newcastle ‘immediately’ reject Arsenal’s bid
There is some way to go about this negotiation – Romano said that the “plan to start negotiations at 55 million euros” was “immediately rejected”.
Newcastle want to keep their key man and have told the Gunners he is not for sale. We don’t entirely believe it, but Mikel Arteta’s side would have to make just over €55 million for such an established Premier League player in his prime.
Newcastle have already released Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this summer and appear to be struggling to comply with the FFP once again. There is still a chance that a deal could be done here, but it would be closer to 75 million euros instead of 55 million euros.
Bruno is currently playing for Brazil at the World Cup, but it will be difficult to put any pressure on him to move until after that.
In other news…
Chelsea have agreed to sign Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and are expected to complete the deal after the World Cup.
David Ornstein also claims that Chelsea’s deal for Marco Palestra has already been completed and it won’t be long before the club makes an announcement.
