Tottenham agree to biggest contract ever with Sandro Tonali

According to an exclusive report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham have reached a complete agreement with Newcastle United to sign the 26-year-old midfielder.

The financial package consists of a guaranteed upfront payment of £92.5m, plus a further £7.5m which is heavily linked to multiple Champions League qualifications.

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the blockbuster news with his trademark “Here we go!” The declaration pointed out that negotiations had been fully completed, not only between the clubs but also on the player’s side.

“Exclusive: Tottenham agree record deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, let’s go! An agreement has been reached between the clubs and an agreement has been reached between the Italian midfielder and the player.”

This astonishing sum represents a record financial commitment for Tottenham, surpassing the previous record benchmark set by rivals English top-flight transfers.

Newcastle could also make a huge profit from the player they originally brought to the Premier League from AC Milan in 2023.

Spurs are building a great team under Roberto De Zerbi

Sandro Tonali’s astonishing £100m deal is the latest statement of intent in what is rapidly shaping up to be a transformative summer window for Tottenham.

Driven by manager Roberto de Zerbi’s ambitions and following back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, the club’s hierarchy completely dismantled old financial constraints and funded a ruthless shake-up of the team.

Tonali’s breakthrough was preceded by Tottenham winning a fierce multi-club competition to sign West Ham United’s star midfielder Matheus Fernandes in a deal worth £85m.

While the signing of a promising midfield player has grabbed the headlines, De Zerbi has also been actively working on restructuring the defensive unit, which was heavily criticized last season.

De Zerby raided former club Brighton to sign highly-rated Dutch centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million..

Spurs also showed shrewd business by signing Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers to add experience and quality to the squad.
