Rory McIlroy wears Masters green jacket at Wimbledon

Rory McIlroy made a big fashion statement at Wimbledon.

The Northern Irishman was dressed to kill as he took his wife Erica to watch Wimbledon tennis on Wednesday. For celebrities, dressing up for the event has almost become a sport in itself, and their outfits are judged as if they were going to the Kentucky Derby or walking the red carpet at the Oscars. Well, McIlroy won nine and won eight, and after showing up wearing a green jacket for his day in the Royal Box, it actually wasn’t that close.

McIlroy successfully defended his title at Augusta National Golf Club in April and will be allowed to wear the prized possession given to Masters winners for another year.

McIlroy, 37, moved from Florida to London last year so his daughter Poppy could attend school there. He returned to the UK from the US two weeks ago and last week was spotted practicing at Royal Birkdale on the Lancashire coast for the upcoming 154th British Open. McIlroy enjoyed some tennis at Wimbledon this week. It has become a rite of passage for male professional golfers as they cross the pond in the run-up to the Scottish Open or the British Open. Wimbledon lasts for two weeks until the final round in Scotland.

It was a European Ryder Cup team gathering of sorts, with captains Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose, and vice-captains Thomas Bjorn and Eduardo Molinari joining McIlroy among the golfers decked out for the day. But as TW Legion perfectly describes it, it’s McIlroy’s “major flex.”
