  • Anaoui fits Iraola’s midfield needs
  • Liverpool should take this opportunity seriously

Liverpool are eyeing Roma midfielder Neir El Ainaoui as they look to reshape the squad that Andoni Iraola took over at Anfield.

According to TEAMtalk, the Moroccan international has become one of the most talked about midfielders this summer after a series of impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His performances against Brazil and the Netherlands have attracted particular attention and the Premier League club are now exploring whether they can lure Roma into a sale.

Liverpool are one of several English clubs to have been informed of the possibility of signing the player.

TEAMtalk claim that intermediaries have held talks with Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Sunderland about a potential transfer.

Anaoui fits Iraola’s midfield needs

Liverpool’s interest makes sense, as Iraola’s side probably lack a natural defensive midfielder.

The Reds have plenty of technical qualities, but they still need someone who can give balance to the team, protect the back four and control the game when the tempo gets chaotic.

El Ainaoui may fit that profile well. He is strong in duels, comfortable carrying the ball and can play with discipline in the deep areas of midfield.

Football Italia also reported that his performances at the World Cup had attracted the attention of Liverpool and Man United.

However, Rome is unlikely to do this easily. El Ainaoui is seen as a highly desirable player and the Premier League club will need to make a lucrative offer to persuade the Italian side to make a profit.

Liverpool should take this opportunity seriously

El Ainaoui is indeed a smart market opportunity that Liverpool should study carefully.

He may not be the biggest celebrity associated with the club, but his profile is interesting and his rise at the World Cup suggests he is ready for a bigger stage.

The challenge is competition. With eight Premier League clubs involved, prices could rise quickly.

Liverpool shouldn’t overpay, but if Iraola believes El Ainaoui can anchor the midfield then they should move quickly.

A signing like this would not only add depth, but also give Liverpool more physical and balanced options in the middle of the pitch.
