Kaishu Sano performed well for Japan at the World Cup and impressed for Mainz in the Bundesliga.

Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old defensive midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club. Liverpool has been mentioned as a potential transfer destination. Mainz sporting director Nico Bungelt says the German club is open to signing the player at a reasonable price.

Mainz completes preparations to release Kaishu Sano

Bangert has revealed that the player has a long-term contract with the club and the club are under no pressure to sell him. They will only accept his resignation on their own terms. He also revealed that it is natural for top players to move to the Premier League and Sano is one of the best players in his position.

He said (h/t SportWitness): “Our big advantage is that the players are still on long-term contracts, so we’re under no pressure at all and we’re not rushing anything.”

“If a club comes to us with an offer, we will consider it. There is also the possibility that Kaishu will stay with us longer if, in our view, we decide that the player’s market value is not high enough. As of today, everything is still open. But of course we know that we have players who are attracting a lot of interest.”

Sano might be a useful option

Liverpool could certainly use a quality defensive midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether he will decide to move to the Japanese national team. He could cost around 60 million euros and will help Liverpool tighten up their back and allow their creative players more freedom to operate.

The opportunity to join Liverpool would be an exciting one for the 25-year-old midfielder. It will be a big step up in his career and he will test himself against world class players in England.

The fact that the German club will allow him to leave for a fair price will be a boost for clubs hoping to sign him.
