According to journalist Ben Jacobs, there is a sell-on clause in his contract that will give Man United a significant fee, but some of it will also go to his former club Getafe.

See below for details and breakdown of the funds involved here…

Jacobs posted: “Fenerbahce have confirmed the arrival of Mason Greenwood from Marseille on a four-year contract. The fee will be 39 million euros, paid in three equal installments over 3 years (sic). Manchester United will receive 15.6 million euros due to an all-sale clause. However, 3.12 million euros will go to Getafe, leaving the club.” #MUFC For 12.48 million euros. ”

Manchester United continues to benefit from Mason Greenwood sale

Greenwood appeared to be an outstanding talent when he first rose from United’s youth ranks to the first team, but in the end the club had no choice but to let him go.

The 24-year-old was arrested after very serious charges were laid against him, but these charges were later dropped. However, this led to him being suspended by United and he never played for United again.

Greenwood has since steadily rebuilt his career, but a return to the Premier League seems unlikely.

Overall, MUFC is making big profits by selling academy players who didn’t cost money to sign in the first place.

BBC Sport reported at the time that when Greenwood was first sold to Marseille, they secured £26.6m from the sale.

A further €12.48m is approximately £10.6m, so the total is £37.2m.

Many fans probably would have liked to have acquired this player, but considering his very unique circumstances, the club has come out of this very well financially.
