Jack Grealish got off to a very good start on loan at Everton last season, and it looked very likely that he would eventually sign the Man City winger for a decent sum, if not the full amount of his loan deal’s £50m buyout option, this summer.
However, a late-season injury changed things, and Everton’s financial situation made a big deal even less likely.
Given Everton’s budget, it is unlikely that City will be persuaded to let the England winger go.
Football Insider’s Wayne Basie claims Everton are only willing to pay Grealish between £5m and £10m on a permanent deal this summer.
“Everton simply don’t have the funds to sign top players in the transfer market,” he wrote.
Man City will scoff at the offer, but it is also understood they would like to offload Grealish’s hefty wages.
If Everton don’t cough, there should be talk of a return to the Champions League and a return to his old club Aston Villa, who should have a little more pocket money than the Toffees.
