England legend Wayne Rooney has backed Harry Kane to “destroy” Argentina’s centre-back if he is serious about competing in tonight’s World Cup semi-final.
Last night, Spain defeated France to advance to the final. Fans will now prepare for the second semi-final match between England and Argentina as the Three Lions aim to reach their first World Cup final since their famous victory in 1966.

Ahead of the big game, former England forward Rooney is backing Kane as a player who can make a big difference, as if Kane is at his best it could be too much for Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero.
Wayne Rooney makes a big case for Harry Kane
Watch below as Rooney explains how Kane was able to cause the duo so much trouble with his intelligent moves…
“If Harry Kane comes on, they won’t be able to deal with Harry Kane,” Rooney said. “Because Harry is a nightmare for that type of defender.”
He added: “If Harry is just dragging them into a position where they feel a bit exposed, they will… It’s a matter of timing the pass and timing to run in behind them.”
“If Harry plays in it, I think he will definitely destroy those two centre-backs.”
Will this match be Lionel Messi vs. Harry Kane?
Soccer is so complex and unpredictable that it would be too simplistic to say that every match is a battle between two individuals.
However, we also know that there are certain levels of talent that are better than others and the entire game plan can revolve around it.

Kane and Lionel Messi fall into that category, and perhaps Jude Bellingham as well after his form so far this World Cup.
If Rooney is right and Kane can shake up Argentina’s defence, it could be England’s winning game plan.
However, as manager Thomas Tuchel has hinted, there also needs to be a plan for Messi, who is in excellent form in this tournament even at the age of 39.
