Manchester United’s plans to sign Marcus Rashford are beginning to emerge following England’s withdrawal from the World Cup.
Despite reports linking the forward with a move to Turkey, his immediate focus is on returning to Carrington and trying to rebuild his career at Old Trafford under Michael Carrick.
The situation remains open as United could still consider a permanent move, but the terms of his departure appear to be very specific.
Rashford doesn’t just want to leave Manchester. Any offer would need to come from an ambitious club that can offer him the sporting project and level of competition he desires.
Michael Carrick prepares to reunite with Rashford
According to Fabrizio Romano, Rashford has no intention of moving to Turkey this summer and there are no talks with Fenerbahce.
The 28-year-old is set to return to Man United for pre-season and Carrick hopes to work with him before a final decision is made.
The Guardian newspaper backed up that position, reporting that Rashford is expected to return to the United squad.
It is believed there are no personal issues between the forward and Carrick, but the club are still considering a permanent move.
Sky Sports also reported that United plan to bring Rashford back into Carrick’s group, despite a summer transfer arrangement having been mooted for some time.
United’s position could still change if a big offer is made.
Rashford could still leave, but Romano’s latest information suggests that only proposals from powerful clubs would be seriously interested in him.
This stance gives Carrick the opportunity to assess the England international during training, rather than basing his decision on a difficult final few months before leaving on loan.
United should give Rashford a real chance in pre-season. His pace, experience and ability to score from the left could still be valuable, especially if he responds positively to Carrick’s approach.
But both sides must be honest about his expected role. If Rashford is no longer considered a regular starter and a Champions League-level club makes a suitable bid, a permanent departure may be for the best.
For now, dismissing the Turkey rumor eliminates one possible destination.
The coming weeks will reveal whether Rashford’s return will be a genuine return to Old Trafford, or simply a final step before moving elsewhere.
