It’s very rare in soccer these days that a story makes you stop and think, “Wow.” Arsenal’s signing of Vinicius Junior did just that.

Club supporters around the world gasped in shock when news broke on Saturday afternoon that the Gunners were exploring a deal.

A deal may not happen and a transfer is at a very early stage of consideration, but I truly believe they could lure him away from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian’s contract at the Bernabéu expires in a year, but Real are aiming to sign Yann Diomande from RB Leipzig, suggesting they are preparing for Vini’s departure. Arsenal want to be in the driver’s seat to secure his contract if he ends up leaving Spain.

Why Vinicius Junior could be a game-changer for Arsenal

For a long time it felt like Arsenal needed a genuine superstar to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Sure, they won the Premier League last season, but they lacked the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah to really get through tough games.

Haaland scored 27 goals in 31 league games as City won the title in 2023/24. When Liverpool won the title in 2024/25, Salah found the back of the net 29 times in 38 games. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s top scorer in the league was Victor Gokeres, who scored 14 goals in the 2025/26 season. In fact, that says it all.

The Gunners certainly didn’t do much attackingly last season, but they won 11 games by a 1-0 scoreline and set a Premier League record for the most goals from corners in a single season with 19.

Therefore, we need to find players who can break down low blocks. They need players who can create and score out of nowhere. They need their Haaland, their Salah. Vini Jr. would be exactly that.

Arsenal’s forwards have struggled for consistency in recent years, but that hasn’t been the case for their Brazilian hero. The 26-year-old scored 22 goals and provided 10 assists last season and has a habit of being involved in goals on a regular basis. Vinicius has scored 20 or more points for five straight seasons.

As the numbers make clear, he is an elite forward and someone who is always in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or. He will be a completely transformative player in the final third. This is a player who can really take the Gunners to the next level.

But he’s not the only one.

Why Arsenal should sign a £130m star with Vigny

If Arsenal want to build a dynasty under Arteta, they should not just stop at the Brazilian. He would be a notable signing for the likes of Andrea Berta, but he shouldn’t be the only addition up front, even with the arrival of Christos Tzoris confirmed last Thursday.

In addition to Tzoris and Vinicius Junior, the Gunners have considered a number of names, from the aforementioned Diomande to PSG’s Bradley Barcola.

However, the current feeling is that Barcola will remain in Paris and Diomande will head to Real Madrid as a possible choice to replace Vini. This move could free up Arsenal to complete the signing of the Brazilian icon.

However, Arteta’s attack could truly change with the arrival of not only him but also a South American player in Julian Alvarez.

It’s no secret that Arsenal are interested in the Argentine this summer, and TEAMtalk say they are poised to make a move. Berta is in direct negotiations with the forward’s camp and is confident that personal terms will be agreed. That being said, they do have one obstacle to overcome. He wants to join Barcelona and the transfer fee is likely to be £130m or more.

That said, if Arsenal can complete the signing of the Atletico Madrid star along with Vini, their eleven could finally look complete.

They have the best defense in Europe, with Declan Rice up front in midfield, and if you combine all this with the attacking trio of Bukayo Saka, Álvarez and Vinicius Junior, you will have arguably the best team in Europe and a team ready to win the Champions League.

why? Well, we’ve outlined how creative and how dangerous Vini can be from the side. Combine this with Alvarez and you’ll have a threatening front line.

There are few better strikers in the world right now than Alvarez, and few strikers who are better at linking and linking plays than he is. The 2022 World Cup winner may have scored 29 goals in his debut year with Atleti and added another 20 last season, but he is also a great creator.

Versatile, he can play as the main striker or a number 10/second striker slightly further back. This means he is excellent at bringing other players into play, ranking him in the best 9% of positionally similar players in Europe’s top five leagues as a projected threat in the build-up phase of play last season.

Expected threat (xT) is a metric that quantifies how much a player’s actions (such as passes or carries) increase the team’s chances of scoring.

Alvarez also ranks in the top 6% of strikers who create big chances in open play. This is a dream for every wide player in the world of football, and even more so for Vini Junior, one of the best wingers in world football.

Having a selfless yet ruthless centre-forward in Alvarez by his side will be a match made in heaven. Arsenal’s attack can go from being the most frustrating to the most dangerous in the blink of an eye.
