The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that Trey Mullinax has been suspended for violating the tour’s anti-doping policy regarding the use of performance-enhancing substances. Mullinax tested positive for a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. As a result, the 34-year-old has been handed a six-month suspension and will not be eligible to return until January 16, 2027.
“I would like to share with my fans the news of my failed anti-doping test and subsequent suspension,” Mullinax said in a statement. “I take full responsibility for what happened. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to understand and follow the PGA Tour’s Anti-Doping Policy and all of its provisions. Any failure to do so is my responsibility. I recently used medication to treat an illness that was first diagnosed during my college years without obtaining approval under the Tour’s Anti-Doping Policy.”
“My lack of knowledge is no excuse. It was my responsibility to know the rules before taking the drug, and I failed to do so. To be clear, I have never taken a drug for the purpose of gaining a competitive advantage. Anyone who knows me knows how much I respect this game and the values it represents.”
“I accept the consequences of my actions and use this experience as a lesson. Golf has given me so much and I never want one mistake to define my respect for golf and those who support me. I thank everyone who has supported me and look forward to competing again in 2027.”
Mullinax didn’t play much in 2026, making just two starts on the PGA Tour and one start on the Korn Ferry Tour. He hasn’t teed it up since the team-style New Orleans-Zurich Classic in April.
Mullinax, who won the 2022 Barbasol Championship, has struggled to stay healthy and regain his form since then. Last season, he played 23 times on the PGA Tour and finished in the top 25 four times, but was unable to earn a full-time card through the PGA Tour Qualifying School.
