  • Where next for Elliott Anderson?
  • Elliott Anderson’s transfer drama is one to watch in January

Manchester United are set to step up efforts to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson this January, as first reported in the Daily Briefing.

Man United are keen to sign Anderson, but sources say they would be willing to pay as much as £70 million for the England international.

He is also expected to face particularly strong competition from Manchester City, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also likely to be names in the race for his signature.

Anderson has enjoyed a stellar spell as Forest manager and is increasingly impressing as a regular in the England squad, so it seems inevitable that he will make a big move at some point.

Anderson is seen as an ideal player for United, with all key figures at the club agreeing that he could be a great addition to the squad.

The Red Devils have obvious problems in midfield and the 22-year-old looks ideal as a long-term replacement for the aging Casemiro and an upgrade for the unconvincing Manuel Ugarte.

A source told me: “United view Anderson as the perfect option and long-term investment, but could accelerate efforts to sign him in January this year. There is a unanimous feeling among the manager, Ruben Amorim and the coaching staff, that Anderson would be a great addition in that position.”

Teams like City and Chelsea would also do well to sign a talent like Anderson, who could flourish this winter.

Still, it remains to be seen whether Anderson will risk a move during the World Cup as he wants to ensure he plays regularly in order to break into the England squad.

That said, a big move might not hurt his chances.
