Arman Tsarukyan Breaks Down the Essential Differences Between UFC and Grappling Matches Amid Sport’s Constant Evolution

Arman Tsarukyan, currently sidelined from the UFC, has had to seek alternative fighting opportunities while waiting for his next UFC match. Despite earning the top contender spot in the lightweight division based on his impressive winning record, Tsarukyan fell out of favor with UFC officials after withdrawing from the UFC 311 main event against Islam Makhachev on very short notice in January.

Dana White has suggested that Tsarukyan might not even be next in line after the winner of the interim title bout between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje at UFC 324. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan has kept busy, competing in three grappling matches between his UFC Qatar victory in November and his upcoming fights.

Since that disappointing day in Los Angeles, Tsarukyan has remained active outside the UFC, participating in grappling matches against top fighters like Patricky Pitbull and Benson Henderson, then returning to fight Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar. He followed this by defeating Mehdi Baidulayev and drawing with middleweight Shara Magomedov in subsequent grappling bouts. He is scheduled to face Lance Palmer in Real American Freestyle Wrestling on January 10 and has expressed his willingness to step in if needed for the Pimblett-Gaethje fight.

Tsarukyan explained in an interview with Red Corner MMA that grappling matches feel easier because he does not have to worry about getting hit in the head, reducing his stress and heart rate. This contrasts with MMA fights that require intense preparation and leave no room for mistakes, allowing him to stay active and focused despite not having an upcoming UFC fight contract.

Fan Take: This development is crucial for fight enthusiasts as it highlights the challenges fighters face behind the scenes, especially when dealing with promotion politics. Tsarukyan’s activity outside the UFC keeps him sharp and ready, demonstrating resilience that could shake up the lightweight division when he returns.
