At the Fairgrounds on Saturday, Little Miss Curlin, a homebred filly from Coteau Grove Farm, continued her impressive streak by winning the filly division of the $100,000 Louisiana Futurity for new Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds, claiming her third stakes victory. This win added to her previous successes at the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie and Donovan L. Ferguson Memorial races held at the New Orleans Race Course in December.

Under the guidance of trainer Pat Devereux Jr., My Lady Curlin—a Charlatan filly out of Carlin, ridden by jockey Jareth Loveberry—triumphed over five competitors, completing the six-furlong race in 1 minute 10.64 seconds. Starting from fourth place on the outside during the backstretch, Little Miss Curlin made a bold move at the far turn, battled Wicked with Bourbon for the lead, and then surged ahead in the final stretch to win by 4 3/4 lengths. Loveberry commented on her growth, noting that she is learning to relax and no longer needs to lead the race, which has greatly improved her performance. Little Miss Curlin went off at $2.10 to win and remains undefeated in four starts, accumulating earnings of $230,502.

In the stallion/gelding division of the Louisiana Futurity, Norman Stable’s Morforth delivered an outstanding performance, taking the win by six lengths over the favored Our Money Man. Trained by Jade Gellner and ridden by Isaac Castillo, Morforth completed the six-furlong race in 1 minute 10.41 seconds. After navigating through traffic and finding the pocket, Morforth moved out on the far turn to overtake the leaders and deny Our Money Man a late bid. Morforth returned $22.40 for his victory. Bred by Adcock’s Red River Farm and Hume Wornall, Morforth added a second stakes win to his record, boasting 3 victories, 2 second-place finishes, and 1 draw in seven career starts, with total earnings of $195,302. He previously won the DS Shine Young Futurity at Evangeline Downs in August.

Fan Take: Little Miss Curlin and Morforth’s dominant performances are exciting signs of strong bloodlines and training in Louisiana’s racing scene, promising thrilling competitions ahead. For horse racing enthusiasts, these emerging stars not only highlight the state’s rising talent but also underscore the sport’s growing depth and competitive spirit.
