  • Salah ends longest goal drought in Premier League history
  • Wolves score the winner in stoppage time

Mohamed Salah finally found the back of the net, ending the longest scoring drought in history, but his strike wasn’t enough to save Liverpool from a crushing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves.

In a dramatic late game against Molineux, the bottom-of-the-table hosts picked up a massive three points in a bid to stay in the Premier League.

After a first half that Stephen Warnock described as “boring”, the match exploded into life in the final 15 minutes.

Wolves broke the deadlock with a goal from Rodrigo Gomez in the 78th minute, receiving a precise through ball from Tolu Arokodare and lofting the ball over Alisson Becker for a brilliant counter-attack.

But the lead lasted only five minutes. Jean-Richner Bellegarde curled a misplaced pass straight into the path of Mo Salah.

The Egyptian King pounced on the mistake clinically, driving into space and leveling the score with a characteristic finish with the outside of his boot.

Salah ends longest goal drought in Premier League history

The goal was a huge personal milestone for Salah and brought an end to the barren days of his glittering Liverpool career.

Until tonight, Salah had failed to score in nine consecutive Premier League games, his longest drought since joining the club in 2017.

His last league goal was around four months ago, in November 2025, in a 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

This season, despite contributing to 16 goals in all official games, the low number of domestic goals has been a hot topic.

Liverpool fans will be hoping this impressive finish signals a return to form for their talisman.

Wolves score the winner in stoppage time

But the drama wasn’t over yet. In the 94th minute, Wolves midfielder Andre tried his luck from long range, his shot finding the mean side of Joe Gomez and misdirecting Alisson into the net, sparking wild cheers on the South Bank.

The result dealt a crushing blow to Liverpool’s top-four ambitions, leaving them just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

On the other hand, it was Rob Edwards’ second straight win for Wolves, following Friday’s win over Villa.

Although they remain in the relegation zone, these two wins will be a big boost towards the end of the season.
