Chelsea have officially confirmed Xabi Alonso as the new manager of the men’s first team, with the Spaniard set to take over on July 1, 2026.

Alonso is Chelsea’s first choice and will be fit for pre-season.

He is more than just a motivational figure. He has already shown that he can build a team with a clear style.
The appointment also tests Chelsea’s ownership. Alonso can only succeed if the club finally stops its chaotic behavior.

He will need a balanced team, smart recruitment and perseverance in difficult times. This could be a great move if Chelsea give it to him.

But there are also risks. Stamford Bridge is not Leverkusen. The pressure is heavier, dressing rooms are more expensive and the Premier League is unforgiving.
