Courtois Calls Alexander-Arnold a “Living Nightmare” for GKS

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois lauded Trent Alexander-Arnold’s “remarkable” crossing skills, labeling his new teammate a “nightmare” for goalkeepers.

Alexander-Arnold recorded his first assist for Madrid, delivering a flawless cross to Gonzalo Garcia in their 1-0 win over Juventus in the Club World Cup.

“He could have bagged several assists already during the tournament,” Courtois remarked about the former Liverpool defender. “His training performance, especially his free kicks and corners, is really impressive and on a different level. I’ve rarely seen anyone with his caliber of crossing ability.”

Having transferred from Liverpool to Madrid just ahead of the US tournament, Alexander-Arnold has played as both a right back and midfielder in every match for Madrid at the Club World Cup. Courtois admitted he’s adapting to Alexander-Arnold’s playing style, as he tends to push forward into attacking positions.

“At times, he’s a goalkeeper’s nightmare,” Courtois stated. “He challenges you to stay alert and makes things difficult. He will definitely elevate our game.”

Madrid is set to play Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup this Sunday in New Jersey, managing to skirt matchups against Brazilian teams like Palmeiras and Fluminense in the process.

When asked about the caliber of South American teams, Courtois responded, “We respect their skill level and never underestimate it. If you listen to those who underestimate them, you’re mistaken.”

“Brazilian teams are strong…and European teams aren’t infallible. The competition is fierce, and it shows in every match.”

Madrid looks to younger player Gonzalo Garcia, 21, for scoring as the French forward is recovering from gastroenteritis while representing Kylian Mbappé.

“I didn’t anticipate him scoring three goals in four games, but I knew he would perform well,” Madrid coach Xabi Alonso praised Garcia. “I trust him, and he has earned that trust.”

Garcia is eager to seize this rare opportunity at Madrid. “This tournament is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I’m going to give it my all to make the most of it,” he told Dazn.

Fan Take: This news is vital for soccer enthusiasts as it highlights Real Madrid’s strategy of integrating top talent like Alexander-Arnold, which could reshape their gameplay and enhance their competitive edge. It also reinforces the importance of young players like Garcia stepping up during crucial tournaments, promising an exciting future for both the club and the sport as a whole.
