Amorim Acknowledges United’s Speed Struggles Following Leeds Defeat

Reuben Amorim acknowledged that Manchester United is lacking in pace and must enhance their performance in the final third of the pitch.

Despite the recent acquisition of Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million ($83.8 million) from Wolves, United, which managed only 44 goals in the previous Premier League season, struggled to make an impact.

Cunha took up the position of left attacking midfielder, with Bruno Fernandes playing deeper in the midfield.

Additionally, Brian Mbemo is set to join the squad from Brentford, and the Portuguese manager is optimistic that the Cameroon international will inject some much-needed pace into the team.

Amorim remarked to MUTV:

“We generated chances, there’s much to improve, but this was our initial test against a Premier League side with two different teams, and it served as a valuable assessment.”

“Matheus Cunha demonstrated what we need. He operates effectively between the lines offensively. We noticed that with his previous team last season, and we hope to see the same here.

“We haven’t established a strong connection with him yet, which is good because it provides room for players like Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount. We must enhance our performance in the final third.”

Marcus Rashford is one of five players rumored to be leaving the club this summer, with a potential move to Barcelona on the horizon.

Despite the anticipated departures, Amorim reassured that the team’s morale remains high.

“The atmosphere is quite positive. Naturally, we encounter challenges, but from the outset, I sensed that unless we struggle together, we won’t succeed,” he added.

“This is just the start, and we need to emphasize quality.”

Despite his optimistic outlook, Amorim recognized the importance of refining the team’s cohesion ahead of their U.S. tour.

United will conclude their preseason with matches against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in the U.S. from July 26th to August 3rd, followed by a friendly against Serie A side Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9th.

“We need to strengthen the bond among everyone and the coaching staff (during our U.S. tour), aiming for unity as a group,” he said.

“We must focus on all the finer details to enhance our game pace and overall performance.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights Manchester United’s ongoing struggle to regain their competitive edge in the Premier League. The club’s pursuit of new talent and improvements in strategy may be crucial steps toward revitalizing their status and success in the sport.
