Wrexham has made it official by signing England international defender Connor Cody, as announced by the club on Friday.

Cody successfully completed his medical on Friday and is poised to join the team in a deal worth £2 million ($2.6 million), as confirmed by sources to ESPN.

The 32-year-old expressed his excitement on the club’s official website: “I’m thrilled. This is a significant day for me.”

“Everyone has seen the progress the club has made in recent years. It’s truly special to be a part of it, and I can’t wait to meet the team and get started.”

This signing is a major win for Wrexham as they prepare for their championship campaign, kicking off against Southampton on August 9th.

Cody enriches the squad with his extensive experience, having played for Wolves, Everton, and Leicester in the Premier League.

He has earned 10 caps for England and participated in the Euro 2020 and World Cup tournaments.

Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, stated, “We are excited to have Connor join our club. His Premier League and Championship experience will be a tremendous asset for our team.”

The Welsh club is aiming for its fourth successive promotion under the joint ownership of Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who re-entered the British Football League in 2023.

Cody becomes Wrexham’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, joining players such as Lewis O’Brien (Nottingham Forest), Rivert Cacarce (Empoli), George Thomason (Bolton), Ryan Hardy (Plymouth), Danny Ward (Leicester City), and Josh Windus (Sheffield Wednesday).

In a sport where team chemistry and experience can heavily influence success, Connor Cody’s addition is a statement of intent for Wrexham as they aim for higher honors. His presence not only boosts the squad’s quality but also excites fans who are eager to witness the club’s upward trajectory.
