If there is a high stakes golf tournament in Utah, there are probably people who have a summer wedding surname at or near the top of the leaderboard.

In this case, there are two.

PGA Tour veteran Daniel Summer Hayes and his nephew, a recent Arizona alumnus and newly-built Pro Preston Summer Hayes, are in the top 15 of the Utah Championship on the Corn Ferry Tour, midway through the tournament at Ogden Golf & Country Club.

Additionally, six of the eight Yutins in the tournament made a cut, reaching 3 under 137.

After filming a 69 on Thursday, Daniel Summerhayes fired 63 on Friday and climbed the leaderboard at the season’s third KFT event when he returned to competitive golf after undergoing surgery in January.

“To be honest, it was a bit miraculous,” Summerhayes said. “The first few months were really difficult, but I’ve gotten my tail back in shape and am very grateful to all the people who helped me along the way.”

North Ogden’s Connor Haw also had a great day on Friday, shooting 64 and climbing to the eighth tie with Daniel Summer Hayes at the tournament’s 8-under.

Preston Summer Hayes added 64 on Thursday at 69 on Friday, tied for former Byu Golfer Cole Ponich and the other packs to 12th place with 7 under.

Ogden G&CC plays as a PAR 70 rather than the regular PAR 72 for the tournament, with the nines being turned over.

Taylor Montgomery, a 30-year-old former UNLV golfer from Las Vegas, is the second round leader, sitting on holes 36 from -14. Montgomery birded his first four holes on Friday and shot 32 on both nines.

Former Utah Golfer College Mitchell Shaw also climbed the clutch on Friday, opening at 71 before shooting a 4-under 66 to cut the number.

The show took part in the event as qualifying on Monday and survived the playoffs to enter the field of 156 at Gleneagle Golf Course in Syracuse.

Peter Quest, a former BYU golfer from Fresno, California but now resident of American Folk, is also tied 62nd after making a 67 card on Friday.

Salt Lake City’s BYU freshman Kihei Akina (-1) and former Weber State Golfer Hayden Banz (+1) missed the cut.

As for Daniel Summerhayes, who is slowly returning to form, the former BYU golfer who once won the KFT, said he feels as good as he’s ever felt.

“I’m probably physically good at any time of my career,” he said.

Daniel Summer Hayes and Howe will pair together on Saturday at 2:10pm Preston Summer Hayes will be off at 1:40pm and Ponich will start their third round at 1pm
