No. 8 Seedalex de Minaur moved to the US quarterfinals after beating qualifier Leandro Reedy 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth round on Monday.

De Minaur progresses to his sixth major quarter final and is still hoping for his first semi-final look in the slams. To overcome that hurdle, he must advance past 25th Felix Auger Aliasim and beat Andrei Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in an Arthur Ash Stadium match that took him over two hours.

Seeded 15th, Lubrevi hit the racket after losing points in the second set. 25-year-old Auger Aliasim breaks his ties with Dennis Shapovalov in the quarterfinals of his fourth Grand Slam tournament, appearing second in the Canadian after Milos Raonick (10).

“Felix is that type of player that everyone knows he’s very high at the top level and when he plays with confidence, he’s very hard to beat,” De Minaur said. “He’s clearly playing incredible tennis this week, and he has a lot of weapons.

“He has a great serve. He has a great forehand. He appears to direct as much as he can. For me, in that match it’s all about trying to disrupt his rhythm and not giving him the opportunity to bully me on the court.”

Auger Ariasime has not made a major quarter final since Australia’s opening in 2022.

Meanwhile, De Minaur is the first Australian man to make a consecutive open quarter final in the US since his seven consecutive wins between 2000 and 2006.

Since Richard Krajsek played the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2002, he was the worst man to win the most ranked 16 majors in the world with 435 No. 435.
