  • Why do we need to remove Eze?

        • Arsenal face another injury doubt against Tottenham after twist and Gabriel strike

It’s a great weekend for Arsenal as the Premier League resumes.

On the one hand, title rivals Manchester City have to play away to Newcastle United. On the other side, they host rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Furthermore, Mikel Arteta often outperforms the Lilywhites, but will have to make do with defensive solid Gabriel Magalhães.

That said, the Gunners should pick up all three points, especially if Arteta releases Eberechi Eze as one of his most important players.

Why do we need to remove Eze?

First of all, let’s make it clear that Eze is an incredibly talented footballer and will undoubtedly play a big role in Arsenal’s season this year.

But it’s equally true that he’s yet to reach his full, breathtaking potential in Red and White and should probably be benched for this important game.

After all, he has two goals and three assists for the team, but has only been involved in one goal in the last six league games, and has even been missing at times.

Now, if this were last season, there would have been a solid argument to move him to the left wing, but Leandro Trossard has rolled back the years and frankly can’t be dropped.

So far, the Belgian has contributed eight goals for the North Londoner, three of which have come in the last four league games.

The former Crystal Palace star may therefore be best suited to come off the bench late in games, as his ability to create moments of magic is second to none.

In that case, Arteta will need to replace him with one of the club’s best players, who has been compared to Dennis Bergkamp, back into the line-up.

Arsenal star to replace Eze

It’s a surprising move, but Arteta will likely consider playing Martin Odegaard instead of Eze tomorrow afternoon.

Now, before the pitchforks and torches come out, the assumption is that the Norwegian is healthy enough to start.

However, given that he was training with the first team earlier in the week and that the manager was fairly vague about his status, he feels he could be.

Moreover, it’s not like the Spaniard doesn’t have a track record of suddenly bringing players back into the side.

That being said, why should the 26-year-old return to the team for this game?

Well, beyond him being the captain and this being a heated derby, he adds an element of control and metronome understanding to the midfield that Eze lacks.

What’s more, the former Real Madrid wonder is able to not only lead the press but also play sensational passes behind the defense, something he had started doing again before his recent injury.

It is this ability to spot and act on opportunities before most other players that led former Arsenal star Ray Parler to describe the Drummen-born ace as “very similar” to the legendary Bergkamp.

The 67-cap Norwegian is clearly not on the same level as Invincible, but that’s something he shares with him.

Finally, despite having a poor season last season, the former dynamic difference-maker still had an impressive record, making 205 appearances and being involved in 81 goals.

In the end, Arteta should introduce Odegaard in place of Eze against Arsenal on Sunday, as long as he is fit enough to start.
