Erling Haaland, who did not score during Manchester City’s 3-2 victory against Leeds United on Saturday, will have to wait a bit longer to join the Premier League’s 100-goal club.

The Norwegian striker is chasing Alan Shearer’s long-standing record for being the fastest to achieve 100 goals, having reached 110 matches. Shearer set this benchmark back in 1995 after his 124th game.

If Haaland had netted his 100th goal against Leeds, it would have been fitting, as it’s the city where his father, Ale Inge Haaland, was born while playing for the Yorkshire club.

While Haaland has the potential to surpass Shearer’s record, he has a significant journey ahead to contend for the all-time scoring title. Shearer still holds the record for the most goals in Premier League history, with a total of 260.

Phil Foden netted the decisive goal in stoppage time, securing a 3-2 win for City against Leeds.

Leeds, struggling in the league, made an impressive comeback from being 2-0 down at halftime, looking poised to take crucial points in the Premier League.

The pursuit of Haaland to reach 100 goals not only excites fans who appreciate goal-scoring feats but also highlights the evolving landscape of talent in the Premier League. If he breaks Shearer’s record, it could ignite a whole new level of competition and admiration for goal-scorers in the sport.
