In the final race of the day at Fairgrounds Racetrack & Slots on Friday, seasoned jockey Jareth Loveberry reached a major career milestone by earning his 2,000th victory. He rode the frontrunner Island Cabana to triumph, defeating trainer Justin Jeansonne.

Expressing his gratitude, Loveberry said, “Achieving my 2,000th win at a historic venue like the Fairgrounds is truly special. Reflecting back 20 years when I started, I never imagined reaching this point.”

Already boasting two wins earlier in the day, Loveberry is closing in on a significant career landmark after taking the first race on Princeday, the clear favorite against Larry Ribery. He shared, “From the start, I believed I had chances with several horses today, and I really felt I could secure that final win. It lifts a heavy burden off my shoulders after such a long journey. I’m grateful to my wife, Stacey, and my children, Kennedy (13) and Colton (9), for their unwavering support.”

At 38 years old, Loveberry’s roots trace back to rural Michigan, where he began riding at smaller tracks like Great Lakes Downs. His career has spanned the country, earning multiple titles at Arlington Park and notably finishing second in the 2023 Kentucky Derby aboard Rivelli’s Two Fills. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Starting from humble beginnings, several horses have been pivotal to me, from Chickipoo to recent champs Toofill and Chunk of Gold. These horses paved my way.”

Now in his fifth season at the Fairgrounds, Loveberry credits his agent and mentor Steve Levine for much of his success. Since finishing in the top 10 his first year, he’s consistently placed in the top three locally over the past three seasons. “Steve has played a crucial role in my career. Since 2019, after I had the chance to go to Chicago in the fall, we’ve been inseparable. I’m deeply thankful for everything he’s done.”
