Man United want to sign a new midfielder, but are expected to sell current players to do so. At this stage, Manuel Ugarte is the likely candidate given his lack of importance at Old Trafford.

Ugarte, who joined Man United from PSG in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth 50 million euros (about 4.4 billion yen), has struggled for playing time this season. He has started just two games in the Premier League and will likely fall further down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim, with plans to sign Carlos Baleva and Adam Wharton. Therefore, he has a chance to leave.

According to Football Insider, manager Mick Brown has revealed that Man United are considering making an offer for Ugarte, and there will be no shortage of candidates to sign him.

“Amorim does not consider Ugarte to be part of his plans. He has been given the opportunity to show why he should play more regular games, but he has done little. He is just not at the level he needs to be.”

“Ultimately, the manager will be given the freedom to make his own decisions. From what I hear, he is willing to let Ugarte go in order to raise money, which will be spent on strengthening the squad.”

“It’s clear that midfield will be their main focus. That’s where they want to strengthen. So letting him go would mean they want to bring in another player. If they can do that, they will definitely consider it and I have no doubt that Ugarte will have suitors.”

“He’s still young and just because he’s not good enough at Manchester United doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. If they make him a big offer, I would expect him to leave.”

Should Manchester United sell Manuel Ugarte?

Ugarte has struggled at Manchester United so it makes sense for him to leave. They may struggle to recoup the money they gave PSG, but it should still bring in a decent transfer fee, which could be used to pay for his replacement.
