  • Manchester City enter race to sign Marc Gehi
  • Liverpool face stiff competition to sign Crystal Palace defender

The January transfer window took a dramatic turn as Manchester City emerged as shock candidates to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

Josep Guardiola’s side could be forced back into the market following an injury crisis in their defense, with Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol suffering injuries.

The move could see the Premier League champions take over the contract of a player long considered to be Liverpool’s top defensive target.

Manchester City enter race to sign Marc Gehi

Manchester City are actively considering a move for the 25-year-old England international, according to a report from BBC Sport.

Interest in Marc Gehi has increased following Sunday’s tough draw with Chelsea, in which Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias were sent off injured.

With John Stones also currently sidelined, City find themselves desperately short of senior options at the heart of defence.

The BBC understands that the pursuit of Guehi has “made significant progress” while the club awaits the final results of scans for Gvardiol and Dias.

Sources have suggested that a move in January “should not be taken lightly” as City look to bring in a proven Premier League leader to defend their title.

Liverpool face stiff competition to sign Crystal Palace defender

Liverpool have been eyeing Crystal Palace’s captain since the summer transfer window. The Reds also agreed to a contract with the Eagles in his place, and the player successfully completed a medical on deadline day.

However, Crystal Palace withdrew from the contract at the last moment of the transfer window, resulting in the transfer falling through.

This worked against the Reds, as they face a lot of competition for his signature considering he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Guehi’s current contract at Selhurst Park expires in the summer of 2026. This has put Real Madrid and Barcelona on high alert, with the Spanish giants keen to sign him on a free transfer.

According to reports, Guehi is the main target of incoming Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior. Rosenior is reportedly keen to bring the former Chelsea academy graduate back to Stamford Bridge on his first major deal.

Bayern Munich have shown strong interest in Gehi.

Liverpool have been the frontrunners for the past few months, but the sudden arrival of Manchester City and other top clubs means Guehi holds all the cards.

Whether he transfers now or waits until the summer, there is a possibility that a battle between the Premier League’s powerhouses will begin.
