Manchester United are targeting an impressive young manager from the continent who could be close to returning to the Premier League, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Carrick: “I know what it takes to be successful here.”

It’s like Groundhog Day at Old Trafford after Man United turned to former players in hopes of turning their fortunes around. But this time, manager Michael Carrick will be aiming to avoid a repeat of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s reign and keep the Red Devils and his managerial career successful, at least until the end of the season.

Speaking to reporters after his official arrival, Mr Carrick said: “I know what it takes to be successful here.

“My focus now is to help our players reach the standards we expect at this great club, and I know this team is more than capable.

“I have already worked with some of the players and have, of course, continued to follow the team closely in recent years. I have full faith in their talent, dedication and ability to succeed here.”

“We still have a lot to compete for this season, and we are ready to bring everyone together and give our fans the performance they deserve for their loyal support.”

Manchester United already have a star player at the level of Antoine Semenyo under manager Michael Carrick.

However, if your interim boss wants an easy start, you may need to look elsewhere. Next up is the Manchester derby, where Manchester City and Manchester United will face off against each other. That’s no big deal for Carrick, who could instantly rekindle his faith at Old Trafford with a shock win.

With each victory comes questions about permanent performances, but reports suggest that INEOS is already eyeing other long-term options.

Romano says Manchester United are definitely keeping an eye on De Zerbi

That long-term option could be Roberto De Zerbi. According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are definitely targeting De Zerbi in the summer ahead of names such as Thomas Tuchel.

The transfer expert said this on his YouTube channel. “Two names that I can guarantee INEOS will consider are Thomas Tuchel and Roberto de Zerbi.

“There were a lot of questions about De Zerbi today. To be clear again, Tuchel is of course completely focused on England and nothing can be agreed before the World Cup in the summer, so ultimately it will be after that.”

“De Zerbi is doing a great job at Marseille and his focus is on Marseille. However, these two managers were on Manchester United’s list for the summer of 2024. They decided to continue with Erik ten Hag, but before that they spoke with De Zerbi and Tuchel at that point.”

De Zerbi’s form at Brighton was impressive and he continued to impress at Marseille. The Italian, described as “unique” by Josep Guardiola during his time at Sussex, could become the Spaniard’s biggest rival in the summer if he joins Man United.
