Chelsea are interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Douglas Ruiz in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, but has struggled to make competitive appearances for the Premier League club. He would be keen to play more often and a move to Chelsea could be ideal, especially if Chelsea are willing to offer him guaranteed game time.

Luiz has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Tottenham in recent months. He was a target for Manchester United at the start of the season.

Chelsea sign Douglas Luiz

According to a report in The Athletic, Chelsea want to complete the loan deal. They believe he will add quality, experience and depth before the summer transfer window. The opportunity to join Chelsea would be an exciting one for the South American player. He previously demonstrated his quality with Aston Villa in the Premier League. He is playing his best football in England with the West Midlands club and will be desperate to get back to that level. A move to Chelsea could be ideal for him. They need more control and composure in the middle of the park and the 27-year-old could be ideal.

He will contribute defensively and add more control from deep. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be able to conclude a deal before the January deadline closes. They have had a disappointing season by their standards and are desperate to qualify for the Champions League. If we are to do well in the second half of the campaign, we need to fill in the gaps in our squad. Signing a quality midfielder could be a wise decision. For Chelsea, signing the Brazilian on loan would be a risk-free acquisition with the potential for significant returns.
