Josh Sargent, a US international forward, could be on his way out of Norwich City, having recently been removed from the first team.

As per The Athletic, his future is under review due to internal club issues, and discussions with Toronto FC are ongoing to finalize a transfer shortly. Recently, a proposed $18 million move to Canada was blocked by Norwich City.

Issues at Norwich

Following talks with sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Philip Clement, Sargent has joined the club’s second team for training, signaling a potential exit. He is reportedly pondering a departure from Norwich City.

As reported by The Athletic, Sargent has appeared distressed during recent discussions, with sources indicating that comments about his family contributed to his current situation. He hasn’t returned to first team training and missed Norwich’s recent 5-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Toronto FC appears to be a probable destination, with Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic both reporting that the MLS club has made an $18 million offer for Sargent. Although negotiations are ongoing, signs indicate that a deal might soon be reached.

Change of Position

Just weeks ago, manager Philip Clement stated that Norwich had no intention of selling Sargent during the transfer window, expressing clarity to both Sargent and his agent. However, circumstances have evolved, and Norwich is now open to negotiations.

Norwich’s Recruitment Efforts

The uncertainty surrounding Sargent’s situation has prompted Norwich to search for potential replacements. The club is reportedly making a strong effort to sign Danish striker Kasper Hog from Bodø/Glimt, who netted 17 goals last season and garnered interest from various teams across Europe.

Currently, Norwich is placed 20th in the Championship standings with 30 points, just above the relegation zone. As negotiations between Toronto FC and Norwich progress, it seems likely that Sargent’s move will be finalized in the coming days, dependent on an agreement between the two clubs.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it reflects the ongoing challenges players face within club dynamics and the potential impact on their careers. Sargent’s move could also reinvigorate his game in Major League Soccer, providing a boost to the league and its following.
