After a strong start to the season with Chris Gotterup winning the Sony Open in Hawaii, the PGA Tour will move to the mainland for its second tournament in 2026, the American Express.
This will be the first event of the year for many big names, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. The four-time major champion will begin his 2026 campaign in California, aiming to conquer Pete Dye’s PGA West Stadium Course, La Quinta Country Club and Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course.
Scheffler, who will be making his season debut at La Quinta, will be joined by a number of other PGA Tour stars, including Ludwig Oberg, Akshay Bhatia, Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Windham Clark, Harris English, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and defending champion Sepp Straka. They will be joined by the likes of Ben Griffin and Russell Henry, who played at last week’s Sony Open, creating a strong field for the second tournament of the year.
Three courses are being played at American Express, and players will play in pairs throughout the week, cutting 54 holes before Sunday’s final round at the Stadium Course. This means play will move forward faster than normal at the beginning of the week, and that’s also shown on the TV schedule, making for a much more condensed schedule than we saw last week in Hawaii.
Here’s how to watch Scheffler, Oberg and others make their 2026 PGA Tour season debut this week in California.
