Sister Troienne’s Enchanting Chant Secures an Impressive Five Straight Victories

Wood Lane Racing’s homebred filly, Sister Troienne, dominated the $175,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes on Saturday, finishing 2 3/4 lengths ahead of nine competitors to claim her fifth consecutive stakes victory. Under the guidance of trainer Brian Lynch and jockey Mario Gutierrez—who also secured a win earlier that day with Kitten’s Joy—Sister Troienne completed the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:40.76. Lynch enjoyed a successful Gulfstream championship meet, capturing seven stakes wins overall, five of which came with Gutierrez aboard.

The 31st running of the Sweetest Chant was part of a strong lineup of five stakes races for three-year-olds on Saturday’s 12-race card, which also featured the $275,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3), an important stepping stone toward the $1 million Curlin Florida Derby (G1) scheduled for March 28 at Gulfstream.

Sister Troienne, owned by the Mannings, entered the race on the heels of victories in the Ginger Brew and Wait a While Stakes. She controlled the pace early, clocking splits of 23.33 seconds and 47.56 seconds, and steadily distanced herself from the field while running side-by-side with longshot Day to Day heading into the turn. Longshot Spicy Princess made a strong move to improve her position, with Brat Pack finishing third.

“It was very impressive, and she posted a solid time,” Lynch remarked. “Down the backstretch, she looked like a sure winner at every stride. I truly believe she’s improving as the race goes on. She has a large, efficient stride and when you ask her to accelerate, she delivers more. It will be interesting to see how she handles tougher competition.”

Sister Troienne is a Lemon Drop Kid mare and the younger sibling of stakes competitor Dyna Passer. To date, Sister Troienne boasts an outstanding record of five wins in six starts, her only imperfection being a third-place finish in her debut on the main track at Ellis Park last August.

Fan Take: Sister Troienne’s impressive streak highlights the emergence of a potential superstar in the three-year-old filly division, signaling exciting competition ahead for the classic season. For horse racing fans, her performances promise thrilling races and add depth to the sport’s younger talent pool, which is vital for sustaining interest and growth.
